Passengers up 1% at Prestwick Airport

Prestwick Airport had 258,212 passengers in July, up 1% on the same month a year earlier.However, a spokesman said that the modest year-on-year rise in passenger traffic is pleasing given the current pressure in the industry, with the addition of new routes offsetting some softness in load factors on existing routes.
Charter passenger traffic was up 3%, with the year-to-date passenger total of 901,481 showing a 1% improvement against the equivalent period last year. Prestwick handled 1,463 tonnes of freight in July, down 37% from last year’s July total of 2,327 tonnes. This is due mainly to a 977 tonne shortfall from the withdrawal of Polar scheduled services in June, partly offset by an increase in tonnage from Air France. The year-to-date freight volume of 8,972 tonnes, 17% behind the equivalent period in 2007.
