£299 for holiday..£419 to park at Prestwick Airport

A man who was delighted to find a five-week break at a four star hotel in the Algarve for just £299 was shocked when he picked up his car at Prestwick Airport on his return, and was hit with a bill for £419 for airport parking, the Scottish Sunday Mail reports. Chris Johnston paid £41 for parking before flying out to Portugal. But a mistake by Prestwick Airport saw him charged another £378 when he checked out of the car park after his car was switched from a cheap long-stay car park to a short stay one because of building works.
Mr. Johnson wrote and phoned the airport to complain, but got nowhere. However, the newspaper persuaded the airport to refund the £378
A spokesman for the airport told them: 'We have been working on a series of improvements to our car parks. Unfortunately a small number of customers have been relocated to premium car parks because of the closure of the older car parks. In this case an additional charge was made in error and we have offered a full apology to Mr Johnston.'
