Holidaymakers who were stranded for three days in the Canary Islands when their flight to Prestwick Airport was cancelled have finally arrived home.
As reported yesterday, more than 1,300 people had been hit by delays after a holiday firm cancelled flights to and from Prestwick Airport. About 330 passengers who were due to fly out from Prestwick on Saturday have been given a refund for their cancelled holiday and more than 300 holidaymakers had been stuck on Gran Canaria since Saturday after travel firm Seguro's sole plane developed a technical problem. About 165 passengers were stranded in Alicante after their flight was cancelled as a knock on effect.
However, the company said the issue had been resolved and that all of the passenger were back at Prestwick Airport by yesterday evening. Seguro's plane, which was chartered from Sky Wings, had its licence suspended after a problem with the navigation system. Richard Burke, managing director of Seguro, said: '[The CAA] have now reinstated the licence of Sky Wings and it will be operating as normal from Prestwick.'
