Prestwick Airport passengers down 2%
19.05.08
Prestwick Airport handled 198,489 passengers in April, down 2% on April 2007 but 3% up on the performance in March. Ryanair's services to Rome, Murcia and Barcelona were the top performers during the month, along with the six Polish services operated by Ryanair and Wizz Air.
Ryanair's Bournemouth service started operating twice daily at the beginning of the month and Prestwick was named Best Cargo Airport (among worldwide airports which handle up to 100,000 tonnes of freight per year) at the Air Cargo News awards.
The airport handled 2,871 tonnes of freight in April, a marginal improvement of 10 tonnes on last April but down 14% on the March total. The adverse month-on-month variance is partly due to the fact that a Cargoitalia aircraft has gone for its major maintenance check, temporarily reducing the number of flights per week to one, the airport said.
