Prestwick lose Stansted and other routes for winter
18.11.11
Ryanair have axed their popular Prestwick to Stansted route, the Ayrshire post reports. Bosses at Prestwick Airport are blaming aviation tax for the grounding of the flight, which was a favourite among commuters who travelled between Scotland and London.
Originally, there were several return flights between Prestwick and Stansted every day, but by last year Ryanair had cut it back to one trip a day. It has now axed the route completely, together with flights to Gerona and Salzburg for the winter months, with reduced capacity on several other routes.
A spokesman for the airport said: It is unlikely that the Stansted service will return unless we see a reduction in Aviation Taxation.’
