Pregnant woman anger at Ryanair flight ban

A pregnant mum was told she was too far in to her pregnancy to fly home from Spain with Ryanair - four days after being allowed to fly there with the same airline, the Daily Record reports. The demand for medical clearance meant she missed her flight - and spent 15 hours stranded at Alicante airport with her two toddler daughters.
On October 10, after being allowed through check-in and security at Alicante airport, Wendy Townsley, 32, ran into problems at the boarding gate just before the flight was about to take off. Staff at the budget airline stopped her from boarding a plane in Alicante because she was 34 weeks pregnant. They insisted she must have a medical certificate saying she was all right to fly.
But days earlier, staff at Prestwick had allowed her to fly without any mention of a certificate.
She managed to contact her midwife and have the medical certificate faxed to the airport within minutes. But by the time it arrived, her flight had left and Ryanair told her she would need to pay £400 for another flight. She was so angry with Ryanair, she decided to pay more for a flight home with a different airline.
Ryanair rules state women more than 28 weeks pregnant must carry a ‘fit to fly’ letter from their midwife or doctor. Women over 36 weeks are not allowed to fly. A spokesman for the airline declined to comment when contacted by the newspaper.
