Prestwick passengers stranded by plane fault

Hundreds of Scotish holidaymakers suffered huge delays this weekend after a travel company's plane broke down late on Friday. More than 700 people on four flights between airports in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Faro in Portugal and Prestwick Airport were affected.
After the plane, operated by travel firm Seguro, developed a problem with its brakes a huge backlog was quickly caused. The company was eventually forced to draft in an extra plane to get the passengers moving.
The problems started on Friday when an Airbus A320 jet, supplied to Seguro by Spanish airline LTE, broke down in Las Palmas airport. All 180 passengers due to travel to Prestwick waited for several hours before their flight was rescheduled very late that night. However, this meant that holidaymakers in Prestwick waiting for a 12:30 flight were delayed by almost 13 hours.
In addition, holidaymakers returning from Faro to Prestwick faced a seven-hour delay and holidaymakers due to fly out to Las Palmas from Prestwick were expected to be kept waiting for five hours.
Last night, Seguro's managing director Richard Burke said the delays had been caused by a brake problem in the plane supplied by LTE.
