16.03.07
Prestwick Airport owner Infratil said February passenger numbers were up 6 percent compared to last year. The airport handled a total of 153,725 passengers in February 2007 against 145,220 in 2006.
Ryanair passenger numbers were flat, with passenger numers boosted by Wizz Air and Transavia services, both of which are nearing their first anniversaries. Freight also showed strong year on year growth, with the February volumes up 19% on the prior year at 2,302 tonnes - the strongest February since 2004.
During the month work began on the first phase of a major overhaul of Prestwick's food and beverage offerings, with SSP to spend £1 million on improvements to their landside and airside facilities. It is anticipated that all works will be complete in time for the peak summer period.
