Infrantil reports flat passenger numbers at Prestwick Airport
15.11.06
At Prestwick Airport passenger numbers were flat in the six months to September 2006, with 'disappointing' airport car parking figures, owner Infrantil has reported. However airfreight has rebounded at the Ayrshire airport, and 'excellent work' has progressed with duty free and beverage operations.
The company blame the disapointing passenger growth of just 2 percent over the same period last year on 'fleet management and route planning' by Ryanair, who operate 95 percent of Prestwick Airport flights.
Infrantil said airport capacity had shrunk overall by 1 percent as Ryanair reduced the frequency of some routes. This outweighed Ryanair launching four new routes, and new links being added by Wizz to Poland and Transavia to Amsterdam.
The airport made progress on improving the car parking operation at Prestwick, but no details were available.
