Passengers down 1% at Prestwick Airport

Prestwick Airport handled a total of 223,617 passengers in September, a drop of 1% compared to the same month in 2006. Local rival Glasgow Airport also reported passengers down in September, falling by 0.8%.
A statement from the airport said that growth from services to Riga and Derry, both introduced in late 2006, offset by Stansted services under performing against the prior year. The airport handled 2,480 tonnes of freight in September - 5% down on the prior year, however year to date freight volume is 6% ahead of the equivalent period in 2006.
