Prestwick Airport passengers up 4% in May

Prestwick Airport handled 216,533 passengers in May, up 4% on the same month last year and 6% up on April. Passenger numbers were boosted by thousands of Spanish football fans who flew in for the Uefa Cup Final.
The airport handled over 20 charter flights carrying around 5000 supporters from Espanyol FC, in addition to those who arrived on scheduled Ryanair services. Freight at the airport was also up 6% to 2571 tonnes.
A spokesman for the airport said that Wizz Air and transavia.com flights continue to perform well, while domestic routes remain weaker possibly as a result of the government's APD rise.
