Weather hits Prestwick Airport microlight event
15.05.11
Bad weather meant that just one microlight made it to Prestwick Airport for a meeting of enthusiasts yesterday. Originally up to 50 of the aircraft had been expected to fly in for the British Microlight Aircraft Association's (BMAA) annual safety day, the first time the event has ever been held in Scotland, but the weather meant that all but one of those who did attend arrived by car.
The association had said on Friday up to 20 microlights would fly in to the airport after predictions of strong winds meant many would drive, but windy and wet weather conditions on the day meant just one flew in. BMAA safety officer Kim Taylor said he was ‘disappointed’ with the flying attendance, but he said that a number microlight pilots had driven to the airport to hear the safety advice.
