Police consider terror flight probe
10.12.05
Police are considering a demand that they examine allegations that UK airports have been used by the CIA moving terror suspects around the globe. The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester, Michael Todd, is 'considering the content' of a letter sent by human rights group Liberty.
Liberty said last month that if police chiefs do not act, it will go to court claiming they aided and abetted kidnap and torture. Mr Todd is a member of Association of Chief Police Officers Terrorism and Allied Matters Committee and has responsibility for the area of aviation, a statement from Greater Manchester Police said.
Mr Todd will respond to Liberty on behalf of the Association of Chief Police Officers. He also plans to meet Liberty's Director Shami Chakrabarti 'in the near future for an initial exploration of the issues' raised, the statement said.
