Ryanair to drop Prestwick - Hamburg flights
06.04.06
Ryanair announced yesterday that it plans to drop one of its key German routes from Prestwick Airport. The Irish low-cost airline will stop flying to Hamburg this summer after just one season.
The move is said to reflect success of Air Berlin's budget German services from Glasgow Airport. But Ryanair still has no-frills flights to 20 destinations across Europe from Prestwick and says it is committed to expansion.
A spokeswoman for Ryanair said: 'The Prestwick to Lubeck Hamburg route has been discontinued with effect from August 1 for commercial reasons. Passengers who had made bookings for after that date have been given a full refund.'
Ryanair had flown three times a week to Lubeck, a city near Hamburg with its own fascinating history. The service will effectively be replaced by flights to Wroclaw, Poland. Flights to the Polish city begin on August 1.
