Countdown to start of smoking ban at Prestwick Airport
02.02.06
Smoking will be banned in Prestwick Airport from the end of this month. Passengers and staff will be forced to stub out on arrival at the airport, a month ahead of the new law which will ban smoking in all public places.
Peter Less, Prestwick airport's operation project manager, said: 'This is a very positive step forward for the airport, our staff and the general public. It's not about stopping people smoking, it's about clearing the air for people who shouldn't have to be subjected to the health risks of passive smoking.
'Hopefully, by implementing the policy a month early we can iron out any potential problems. In particular, we have such an influx of foreign visitors that it's important to be aware of any grey areas regarding foreign nationals and their understanding of the policy.'
