Norwich Airport is looking for a new boss after managing director Elliott Summers quit his post to spend more time with his family, EDP reports. Mr Summers, who embarked on a cost-cutting strategy aimed at attracting new businesses and shifting away from an over reliance on budget airlines when he took over the top job in January 2009, resigned on Tuesday. The hunt for his successor has started and in the meantime Andrew Bell, group finance director at Omniport, the airport's parent company, has taken over as interim managing director.
Mr Summers said his key achievements included implementing airport-wide safety arrangements including a new fire training ground and stripping £1.4m of cost out of the business. But last month it emerged that passenger numbers had slumped by 30 percent to 404,000, while revenues were also down by £2.4m. In November a survey of 84 leading business figures warned that passengers wanting to fly from Norwich had been put off by costly fares and a lack of destinations. Airport bosses were accused of using a controversial terminal tax to boost profits instead of providing routes and services.
