Airport expansion grants scrapped

Newquay Airport after a route from the airport was scrapped due to spiralling fuel costs. Air Southwest – the largest operator of flights from the airport – and Flybe have both pledged their support to Newquay.
The support comes after Flybe announced it was scrapping its Newquay - Glasgow route from August in the face of spiralling fuel costs – despite only launching it in April. This is in stark contrast to Lufthansa, who started a new weekly flight service from Dusseldorf International airport to Newquay last weekend. The airline said forward bookings were strong with seat load factors for July already topping 71%.
Air Southwest also reaffirmed its support in the face of increased fuel bills. Mike Coombes, deputy chief executive of the airline said: ‘As the largest operator at Newquay Cornwall Airport, Air Southwest remains committed to offering customers excellent value for money with all-inclusive fares.'
