Work to start on Newcastle Airport’s £3.2m extension

Work will start next month on the main part of a £3.2m expansion of Newcastle Airport. The project, which will see new three-storey extension to the terminal, creating an extra 5,242-sq ft of security search accommodation, will improve passenger journeys through the airport.
When fully operational it will provide up to 10 lanes to screen hand luggage prior to entry to the departure lounge, an increase from 5 lanes at present. The airport’s immigration arrivals area is also being redeveloped to offer a more seamless journey for arriving passengers. It is being carried out in phases to ensure minimum disruption to airport users and is scheduled for completion by the spring.
