Newcastle Airport cigarette smuggler jailed

A cigarette smuggler was jailed yesterday after booking easyJet flights to stock up on thousands of duty-free cigarettes - then never leaving the country. Christopher Campbell used boarding cards for short haul flights to fill holdalls with cheap cigarettes, then left through the Nothing to Declare channel without ever leaving the country.
Newcastle crown court heard Mr Campbell, 40, from Newcastle, trafficked at least 100,000 cigarettes - and made at least £100,000. He admitted evading excise duty, and was jailed for 15 months.
