22.09.08
Customs officers at Newcastle Airport discovered a £300,000 stash of cocaine– the second major drugs haul on planes in a week. The discovery follows a raid on a plane arriving on Tyneside on the same African route last week when £150,000 of the Class A drug was recovered.
On Thursday at the terminal when a flight arrived in the North East from Cameroon via Paris Customs officers found 4 kg of cocaine and have charged Nigerian national Lawrence Izundu with attempting to smuggle a class A drug into the UK. He appeared in Newcastle Magistrates Court on Friday where he was remanded in custody.
Last week customs officials found £150,000 of cocaine on a flight arriving on another flight into Newcastle on the same route – from Cameroon via Paris. Two Nigerian nationals were charged following that discovery of 2kg of the Class A drug.
