Newcastle Airport loses a million passengers
17.03.10
Newcastle Airport has lost a million passengers over the last couple of years, as the recession ravaged the aviation industry, the Chronicle reports. The news came when CAA reported that 2009 saw the largest annual decline in passengers at UK airports for 65 years, with numbers falling across the UK.
At Newcastle Airport 4,587,883 passed through the terminal last year, compared with more than 5 million 12 months earlier and more than 5.7m in the peak year for the industry of 2007. Airport bosses blamed the decreases on fewer families taking holidays due to the recession, as well as businesses cutting back on travel and government air tax increases for the sharp decline in passengers.
