Eastern launch first Norwegian flight from Newcastle Airport
11.11.07
Eastern Airways launches its first link to Norway from Newcastle Airport tomorrow. The independent airline will launch flights to Stavanger, timed so that travellers could take a day return to the Norwegian city.
The flights will operate each weekday from Newcastle to Stavanger via Aberdeen using a 50 seat Saab 2000 aircraft. The flights depart from Newcastle at 07:10, arriving in Stavanger at 10:50. From Stavanger, services leave at 18:05, landing in Newcastle at 19:55 (all times local).
Norway is the third largest exporter of oil in the world and most major energy companies have bases in Stavanger. As European Capital of Culture 2008, the Stavanger region is also ideal for tourists with its unforgettable fjords and mountains.
With more domestic flights from Newcastle than any other carrier, the new route will also increase seat capacity with an additional 840 seats a month on its Aberdeen services due to the introduction of the bigger planes on the route.
