Record year for Newcastle Airport
03.08.08
Newcastle Airport has announced that 2007 was a record year with its highest ever profits and passenger numbers, the Journal has reported. Financial figures revealed that pre-tax profits increased by nearly 80 percent compared with the previous year, from £9.9 million to £17.7 million while passenger numbers increased by 4.1 percent to 5.7 million.
Graeme Mason, head of planning and corporate affairs at Newcastle Airport, told the newspaper: ‘Last year was our best ever year. There were a number of big landmarks, including the launch of the Emirates service to Dubai plus six other new routes, and the opening of the new control tower.’
Newcastle Airport is keen to build on its success by expanding its operations further with the introduction of more flights to new destinations and the construction of new airport hotels. Mr Mason said: ‘We are still targeting new routes, including long-haul destinations, and there will be further investment in the terminal building.'
