Emergency at Newcastle Airport

Fire crews were scrambled to Newcastle Airport today after an emergency alert was declared, the Chronicle reports. Six fire engines rushed to the scene after a Flybe flight to Gatwick reported problems shortly after taking off. The plane made a successful emergency landing back at the airport.
The 06:52 service to Gatwick was declared a full emergency at 07:06, meaning the airport was put on standby and the emergency services called. The plane returned safely to Newcastle and landed at 07:15. The aircraft took off again for Gatwick an hour later after the problems were corrected.
