Manchester escapes Ryanair cuts
19.07.08
Manchester Airport has avoided the deep flight cuts and temporary closure of bases across Europe this winter by budget airline Ryanair. The airline is cutting flights from Dublin by over 20%, from Stansted by 14% and shutting bases in Basel, Budapest, Krakow, Palma, Rzeszow and Salzburg this winter.
The bases will be closed between November 4 and December 19, affecting 2,000 flights with the loss of 300,000 passengers. The airline blamed record high oil prices of $140 a barrel and expensive airport charges for the closures. Ryanair does not fly to any of the seven airports from Manchester so flights here will remain unaffected.
