Spotters at Manchester Airport for Russian planes
15.05.08
Whilst football fans headed for the City of Manchester stadium yesterday, plane spotters headed for Manchester Airport. Hundreds of spotters descended on the airport to see the Russian jets bringing in fans from Zenit St Petersburg for the Uefa Cup final.
The airport said that it had 600 advance bookings for the viewing area car park by enthusiasts ahead of the game yesterday. They arrived early to see the aircraft bringing in fans, as the Russian planes are seldom seen in the UK. Some of the planes were described as 'elderly' and many are rarely seen in the West. They included the Tupolev TU 154, the Yakolev 42, Transaero Boeing 747 and Gazpromavia Boeing 737.
