Meeting over Manchester Airport strike

Union officials representing 200 cleaning staff at Manchester Airport due to go on a three-day strike next week over pay are to hold last-ditch talks with bosses. Unite will meet Initial Air Services management on Monday morning, three days before the strike is due to start.
Unite say that almost 95 percent of its members voted in favour of a strike after the company imposed a two percent pay award even though it had been rejected by the workforce. Up to 200 cleaners will walk out at 06:00 next Thursday until 06:00 the following Sunday following a dispute over pay. Another three-day strike is planned to start on July 22.
Unite organiser Sharon Cowell said: ‘This dispute could be resolved if the company returns to the table with a reasonable pay offer. We are having a meeting on Monday but we are not suspending the action. We have said we will come along and hear what they have to say. We will decide on Monday.’
The union claims the strike will have a ‘massive impact’ on security but airport bosses said security will be unaffected. A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said: ‘The action would not involve staff employed by Manchester Airport which includes all security personnel at the airport. We do not anticipate any disruption to the normal operation of Manchester Airport.’
