Manchester Airport passengers down 10.5%

Passenger numbers fell at Manchester Airport by 10.5 percent to 1 million in February compared to the same period in 2009. Domestic passengers were down 4 percent, scheduled international down 9.5 percent and charter passengers down 17 percent.
For the 12 months to the end of February 2010 total passenger traffic is down 11.7 percent to 18.5 million and cargo is down 20.4 percent 105,688 tonnes. In the month of February cargo was down 18.4 percent to 8,075 tonnes. A spokesman for the airport said the global economic downturn is behind the drop in passengers.
