Emergency landing for Manchester bound flight
10.07.08
A Manchester Airport bound flight with 208 people on board made an emergency landing in Cyprus yesterday after the pilot reported an engine problem. XL Airways flight XLA 219 from the Egyptian tourist resort of Sharm el-Sheikh was forced to land at Larnaca Airport at 01:50 (22:50 GMT), after reporting a problem about 50 minutes earlier.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘The captain of the aircraft informed authorities one of the plane's two engines stopped working and requested permission to land. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, landed safely.'
The passengers later boarded several flights back to Manchester whilst the engine problem was investigated.
