Man seriously injured in Manchester Airport crash

A motorist was seriously injured in a vehicle collision in a tunnel running under Manchester Airport yesterday. The police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved a van and a car and happened at about 05:40 in the Wilmslow-bound tunnel beneath the airport on Altrincham Road (A538).
Fire crews cut a man from the silver Honda Accord car and he was taken to hospital in a serious condition. The driver of the white Mercedes Sprinter van was also taken to hospital, but his condition is not serious.
Insp Andy Watkins, from Greater Manchester Police's Road Policing Unit, said: ‘We are keen to hear from anyone who saw either of these two vehicles driving near to the airport area yesterday. We are investigating the possibility that the Honda Accord car could have been driving on the wrong side of the road. We are appealing for anyone that has any information to get in touch.’
