Manchester flight diverted over drunken air rage incident
09.11.10
A drunken woman went berserk on a packed British holiday jet, attacking cabin crew 35,000ft above the Atlantic and forcing it to divert so that she could be removed, the Sun reports. The Thomson Airways flight from Manchester to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic was diverted to Bermuda, where she was taken off the Boeing 767-300 jet by local police. The problems began as the plane, with 260 passengers on board, was five hours into the eight-hour flight. The middle-aged woman, thought to have been drinking from alcohol not supplied by the crew, stood up and began ‘shouting incoherently’ and lashed out at staff. One steward was punched in the face before staff restrained her and handcuffed her to her seat.
Passenger Brett Kenyon, 27, from Manchester, told the newspaper: ‘She went for them and hit one of the male stewards. He had a big shiner. Even when police took her she was struggling and tried to run away !’
The flight, already delayed by a day, eventually touched down 28 hours late. Thomson confirmed the flight was diverted and ‘a disruptive passenger was removed’.
