180 jobs lost at Manchester Airport
09.09.08
Around 180 baggage handlers, check-in staff and other workers look set to lose their jobs at Manchester Airport, the Evening News reports Servisair, which provides ground handling services for airlines, has written to staff informing them of potential compulsory redundancies and is now in negotiations with union officials.
The firm intends to axe up to 180 positions in ramp services and baggage hall, passenger services, operations and despatch as well as administration and management positions by November 13. It is inviting staff to apply for voluntary redundancy, citing the expected downturn in flights this winter as the reason for the job losses.
