Manchester Airport report surge in US passengers
07.08.08
More people are flying to Las Vegas, Florida and Mexico to take advantage of the pound’s strength against the dollar, Manchester Airport told Crain's today.
Andrew Cornish, the airport’s managing director, told the news service: ‘Last year the popular destinations were definitely European such as Tenerife, Menorca and Italy. This year, although those places are still doing well, we are also seeing a rush of passengers booking last minute holidays in more exotic countries, showing that the economic doom and gloom might make us all have to tighten our belts but holidays remain important.’
The number of passengers expected to fly to the US this summer is already up by almost 8 percent, with other long-haul routes seeing a 10 percent increase. Since the start of the school summer holidays, nearly one million passengers have passed through the airport.
