Manchester Airport car park extension may not be legal

Manchester Airport is being investigated after claims it started to build a car park without planning permission, the Evening News reports. The airport began extending their shuttle park on Moss Lane, Wilmslow, last month but now Cheshire East council is examining whether the work is legal.
It is understood that the airport did not submit a new planning application because it believes it is already covered under existing airport planning regulations. But council planners are now looking at the project after complaints from walkers and residents. If they decide the car park extension needs planning permission, work could be put on hold.
A council spokesman told the newspaper: ‘The land at Moss Lane, in Cheshire East, is under the control of Manchester Airport. The airport have informed us that they consider the construction of a car park to be permitted development under existing airport regulations. Cheshire East council is considering the proposals.’
