Former F1 ace crashes van on way to Lydd Airport

Former Formula One champion Michael Schumacher was involved in a road accident in Kent on Sunday, after attending the Silverstone Classic event. He was on his way to Lydd Airport at the wheel of a Fiat Ducato van (strange, but true) when he rounded a corner in Lydd-on-Sea and collided with a used car lot security barrier, while overtaking another car.
The barrier was in the process of being closed by Martin Kingham of Millfield Motors. He was knocked over in the impact and landed on the bonnet of a car parked nearby. According to Kingham, Schumacher then abused him for being in the road. He said: ‘He seemed cross, as if I was in the wrong. I called the police.’
Mr Kingham said: ‘The copper came into the office and said the guy’s claiming to be Michael Schumacher and I said 'he doesn’t half look like Michael Schumacher’. The copper said we’re just going to confirm it with some ID.’
The police gave the German a breathalyser test to see if he had been drinking. The two men then exchanged insurance details and Schumacher went on his way. Twenty minutes after he left, his jet took off. Schumacher's spokesman has confirmed the incident.
