easyJet announce job cuts
12.09.08
easyJet has announced it is to shed up to 60 management jobs as the aviation industry struggles to cope with record fuel costs and a slowing global economy.
The Luton Airport based budget airline has culled a number of management and administration posts from its headquarters next to the terminal. 50 to 60 of 655 such posts are to go.
A spokeswoman said it was facing ‘an unprecedented challenge due to the continuing high oil prices. We expect the whole industry to face a bloody winter, with substantial casualties as airlines cut back and / or go under.’
The spokesman insisted the airline was still profitable but had to make cutbacks in order to remain competitive.
