Council plans expanded Luton Airport
07.10.11
Luton Borough Council hopes to treble the number of people using Luton Airport, The Comet reports. The council is the main shareholder of Luton Airport Limited, which owns the hub and receives fees from its operator, is considering its future.
At an Executive meeting, council leaders said they think the annual passengers will increase to 18 million by 2020 - almost double the current number - and up to 30 million passengers by 2030.
The new Master Plan, required by the Government, would require development to the land to the east of Luton, which is within the North Herts boundary. North Herts District Council councillor David Barnard told the newspaper that if the airport was to increase its capacity, there would be serious implications for people in North Herts.
