Luton Airport launch new ‘access plan’ (£1 drop off fee)

Luton airport launched its new 'access plan' today. The plan, which includes charging drivers £1 to use the drop off car park, will allow passengers to reach the terminal in the most 'secure and orderly' manner possible, a spokesman said.
The airport said that changes to the way passengers access the airport were being made to adapt to rising passenger numbers. The plan includes a new priority drop-off area, where airport visitors pay £1 for ten minutes to drop off passengers. Drivers not wanting to pay this can drop off passengers at the mid stay car park for free, but they will have to take the free transfer bus (which operates every 10 minutes) to the terminal.
Luton Airport's new public transport interchange will also launch today. This will see coach, bus and rail shuttle services stopping outside the terminal building and a dedicated bus lane opened.
Glyn Jones, managing director of Luton Airport, said: 'We remain committed to ensuring all passengers are able to access the terminal in a secure and orderly manner. By encouraging use of our mid-term car park, which is only a two-minute bus ride from the terminal, and the excellent public transport links to and from the airport we will be better able to manage traffic flows around the terminal.' He didn't mention the tens of thousands of pounds the new charge will also generate in income for the airport.
