Swans moved from near London City Airport
24.05.11
Staff at London City Airport, along with Newham Council, the Civil Aviation Authority and environmental groups, have worked together to relocate a flock to swans living near the Docklands hub to Windsor. It said the swans had reached unmanageable levels in the Royal Docks, posing a danger of 'bird strikes' on flights coming to and from the airport.
Director of safety and airfield operations Sharon Preston said: ‘Bird strike is the most common cause of aircraft accidents. We needed to relocate the flock as a matter of urgency. We are delighted to have been able to protect the future wellbeing of these swans and would like to thank all of the parties involved in this operation.'
