BA refuse to disclose booking levels on new London City – New York route
18.07.09
British Airways has declined to disclose bookings for its new London City Airport - New York flights, which are scheduled to start 29 September, Flightglobal reports. The airline's reasons for refusing it that, at this point, the niche business travellers targeted by the flight are not prepared to book flights for travel later in the year. We take this to mean that the figures are not good.
The airline is attempting to create a niche product targeting business travellers in London's financial district through daily flights with Airbus A318s configured with 32 lie-flat business class seats, in the depth of the worst aviation recession in decades, which has hit business class demand particularly hard. During an interview yesterday with ATI BA executive VP for the Americas Simon Talling-Smith gave no assessment of bookings, saying that it was ‘too early to tell’.
