Near miss for Leeds Bradford flight?
26.07.08
At 11:25 on Thursday July 17 a Thomas Cook Airways flight from Faro to Leeds Bradford Airport came within kilometres of disaster, the Portugal News reports passengers on board claiming. According to a passenger travelling on the flight, a Thompson’s Airways passenger jet passed within ‘waving distance’ of the packed flight of holiday makers returning from the Algarve last Thursday morning.
The passenger told the online news website that he saw the plane pass within what he believed to be about two kilometres from his window seat. He said: ‘It went past too quickly for me to switch my camera on. I’ve never seen a passenger plane pass another passenger plane so closely. It was certainly within waving distance.'
The plane landed safely at Leeds Bradford International airport at 12:15. The Portugal News contacted Faro Airport Thomas Cook Air Traffic Controller Alan Stirk, who denied any knowledge of the near-miss, saying ‘If that was the case we would have heard from out UK Duty Office, but we have heard nothing’.
