Ryanair considering Leeds Bradford base
09.08.08
Ryanair is reported to be looking at establishing a significant base at Leeds Bradford Airport. The Telegraph & Argus reports that this would include expanding the number of flights it runs from the Yorkshire hub to between ten and 20, subject to a deal with airport bosses.
Last month the company announced two new routes from Leeds Bradford to Spain, days after cutting back its winter schedule to Dublin. Ryanair said the additional flights were expected to bring an extra 100,000 people through the airport – counteracting the impact of its reduced Dublin services.
Ryanair’s chief executive Michael O’Leary said the company was in talks with the airport, but the move would depend on Leeds Bradford agreeing a low-cost deal. Tony Hallwood, the airport’s commercial and aviation development director said they were in talks with a wide number of or airlines, including Ryanair, about future operations.
