Freight up 26% at Kent Airport

Kent International Airport (Manston) handled 3758 tonnes of freight in November, a 26% increase on the prior year but 10% down on the October total, which was a record month for the airport under Infratil ownership.
MK Airlines, Egypt Air and Cargolux continued to deliver strong loads on their regular services, but ad hoc freight traffic made less of a contribution than it did in October, when a specialist concert tour company used the airport. The year to date freight volume was 17,245 tonnes at the end of November, 15% ahead of the equivalent period in 2006.
ACT Airlines, a Turkish A300 freight operator, was welcomed as a new customer for Kent International during the month. In addition, two new passenger routes will be operating from Kent International in 2008, it has been announced.
Kent Escapes has will operate a summer programme that includes Las Palmas in the Canary Islands for the first time, as well as Palma in Majorca, which is already a popular destination. Channel Island Travel Services have also announced that in summer 2008 they will operate a weekly flight between Kent International and Jersey.
