Spitfire to face old Luftwaffe foe above Kent Airport
15.09.07
The Spirit of Kent Spitfire will come face to face with its wartime nemesis the Messerschmitt at an airshow next weekend. The plane, which has been lovingly restored to its former glory, will be taking to the skies at Kent International Airport next Sunday.
The Spitfire is the only aircraft on the circuit to be named after a county and will be joined by other spitfires from around the country, that have also been returned to top condition.
The show at the Manston airport will give visitors the chance to watch the planes in action in a full flying display featuring a Messerschmitt, which were flown by the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain.
A re-enactment of a World War Two scramble will be performed by the RAF - the warning bells would ring to announce the enemy was approaching and the pilots would rush to their planes to take off to do battle in the skies with the Nazis. The event will take place between 10:00 to 16:00 and entry is free.
