An Oxfam flight to Islamabad took off yesterday from Kent Airport, loaded with £100,000 of aid to help 47,000 families, victims of the earthquake in southern Asia. It is expected to be the first of many to leave from the airport.
The flight, which left Kent on Thursday evening, had a 40-ton cargo, which included winter clothing for 5000 children, 1000 sq. yds of tarpaulin for temporary shelters and 30,000 blankets. 'Winter is fast approaching and it is getting really, really cold out there,' Oxfam's Simon Gray said.
