Infrastructure investor Infratil said yesterday that recently purchased Kent Airport is now open and had a small number of jet movements in its first week of operations. The company also owns Prestwick airport, and said passengers were up by 15% in August
Infratil bought Kent International Airport last month from administrators for £17 million, and said it may take up to four years before the asset posts an operating profit. It confirmed its new airport in southern England 'is now open for business, with the necessary operating licenses and insurance having been put in place.
'A small number of jet movements took place in the first week of operations, including a 747 for maintenance reasons. Freight operations expected to recommence in the coming weeks.'
Also in its investor update Tuesday, Infratil said its Glasgow Prestwick Airport had a total of 241,359 passengers in August, up 15.0% from a year ago. Freight volume of 2,331 tonnes was down 17% from August 2004.
