Infratil says Kent Airport integration in line with plans

Infrastructure and airports investor Infratil said today that the integration of Kent International Airport is proceeding 'broadly in line' with plans, and freight aircraft have returned to the airport more quickly than anticipated.
New Zealand-based Infratil said in a statement that Kent airport in southern England, which it bought in August from administrators for £17 million, has shown encouraging early signs. Previous major customer MK Airlines has returned to the airport after last using it in August 2004, Infratil said.
The airline has now recommenced a schedule of three weekly Boeing 747 freight services carrying full loads of fresh produce from East African markets bound for UK and European supermarkets. 'These are likely to continue through the season of produce imports from September until May,' a spokesman said.
The spokesman added that early military and general aviation movements at the airport were also 'encouraging.' Infratil has previously said Kent Airport may take up to four years to post an operating profit.
