IOM Airport security staff unhappy with new deal

Security staff at Isle of Man Airport are unhappy with conditions being offered by the new contractor, the IOM Today has reported.
Belfast-based Resource has offered to rehire all 28 members of security staff at Ronaldsway when it takes over the contract on October 1. But a 'source' aware of initial discussions between Resource and the workers told the newspaper that staff feel they will get a raw deal by switching employer and many would rather be made redundant.
According to the newspaper outline terms issued by Resource state it will not offer a pension scheme or sick pay, benefits staff currently enjoy while working for G4S. The annual holiday entitlement under Resource would drop from 25 days to 20 days after bank holidays, with no increase after years of service. However, the biggest concern is the restructuring of shifts from 14 hours to 8 hours, which workers fear will lose them £50 to £70 per week in earnings.
The ' source' (which sounds very much like a union leader) told the newspaper that they fear an exodus of staff would leave Resource – which is committed to hiring within the Island – unable to find and fully train replacements in time, meaning new recruits would have to be monitored themselves.
In a statement, Resource said there were 'a number of erroneous claims' made by the source. Airport director Ann Reynolds said she was sure security staff were being offered 'excellent terms and conditions' by new contractor Resource.
