IOM Airport to get new radar system

The Isle of Man's Infrastructure Minister has announced a decision to replace the airport's radar system, costing more than £3.4m. Phil Gawne said Ronaldsway's primary radar, first commissioned in 1965, was ‘very much past its useful life’ and the airport will lose its approval to use its secondary radar at the end of next year.
Members of Tynwald gave their approval for the replacement at a meeting on Tuesday. Mr Gawne said: ‘We could have a primary radar continuing for a few more years but we are having more and more break downs. They are costing several thousand pounds to fix. We are aware we are less able to get spares for this as well.’
