Airports warn passengers to expect delays today
30.06.11
Heathrow and Gatwick have warned passengers to expect delays today as immigration staff join the UK public sector strike. A statement on the Heathrow Airport website says: ‘Due to strike action by UK Border Agency staff at all UK airports, passengers arriving at Heathrow are likely to experience a longer wait time at passport control. We are working with UK Border Agency to minimise delays to passengers and flights.’ A similar statement is on Gatwick’s website. Both airports stress that departing passengers are not affected by the walk out and should experience no delays.
Passengers arriving into Luton, Edinburgh, Belfast, London City and Stansted airports were experiencing delays this morning, however Manchester Airport said passengers have experienced minimal disruption as staff have been deployed from elsewhere in the airport to handle the staff shortages. Aberdeen, Bournemouth and Southampton Airports all say they expect little disruption from the strike.
